The Shift Into Shabbat

When Daniel and I began observing Shabbat, we quickly discovered that it wasn’t just about stopping what we were doing—it was about learning how to be. And to be honest, that was harder than expected.
We live in a world addicted to doing. Productivity is currency. Busyness is a badge of honor. Even in our spiritual lives, we’ve been taught to measure growth by activity—how much we serve, read, pray, accomplish, or post.
But from the beginning, God didn’t just call us to work. He created us to be.
To be in His image. To be in relationship. To be in rest.
Shabbat is an invitation to come out from under the tyranny of performance and step into the gift of presence. It’s not just about obeying a command—it’s about remembering who you are when the doing stops.

The Power of "Be" in God's Language
Scripture opens with a creative Word: "Light, be." Not “Light, get to work.” Not “Light, do something impressive.” Just... be.
And from that place of presence, all creation flowed.
Much of the spiritual material I've been sitting with lately reveals this again and again: the Spirit leads not by demand, but by quickening. He awakens us to what is already true in Heaven and invites us to live in sync with it here on Earth.
Our true identity isn’t something we strive to become. It’s something we learn to be still enough to receive.
Be Still and Know: It's Not a Suggestion—It's a Strategy
We often quote Psalm 46:10:
“Be still and know that I am God.” But stillness is more than silence. It’s surrender.
Stillness says, “I’m not holding this up.” Stillness says, “I trust You with what I can’t carry.” Stillness says, “I don’t have to make it happen—I only have to respond to the One who already did.”
Shabbat is the weekly return to stillness. It’s where the doing ends and the being begins again.
Activation: This Week, Try This
Here’s something simple to ask yourself: “Who am I without anything to prove?”
Sit with that. Don’t rush past it. Let the Holy Spirit meet you there and speak truth over you.
And then—enter into Shabbat, not with a to-do list, but with a wide open heart.
We'd Love to Hear From You
